In 2008, the Department of Health commissioned the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) to develop a public health intelligence training course covering knowledge and skills up to level 6 of the Public Health Skills and Careers Framework. The course was piloted in two regions in 2008. The course is now being rolled out in other regions. The West Midlands Public Health Observatory is pleased to be able to offer an eight day introductory course in public health intelligence skills for the West Midlands region.

This course aims to help meet the public health skills and knowledge needs of analysts in PCTs, the SHA or local authorities. Although it is aimed at analysts relatively new to public health, some of the sessions may also be of benefit to other public health specialists.

The course has been developed by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) and will be run by the West Midlands Public Health Observatory (WMPHO) staff and other public health specialists from the West Midlands region.

It is comprised of 8 individual sessions that will take place every second Thursday from the 21st of January onwards (See schedule for full list of dates). All the session will be held at the West Midlands Public Health Observatory.

The course is free of charge and primarily aimed at new specialists in the public health intelligence and information staff. Participants should have basic IT skills, including the use of excel.

It is expected that the course may be over subscribed and therefore places may be limited. To apply for a place either on the whole course or for specific sessions please complete an application form using the links below.
